Brynlee is 13 Months old today!!
And, it's her baptismal birthday!
And, it's May Day! My favorite day of the year! :)
a. Start of my Bday month! Woot.
b. Almost end of school.
c. Spring time / nice weather!
d. Summer is almost here.
e. Who doesn't love to celebrate your friends and neighbors by making cute baskets with fun snacks and candy??? (Which, I was a slacker and did not do this year...oops...)
f. Also, it's the feast day of St. Joseph the Worker, so another great reason to celebrate and feast.
*Tangent*
Grady wanted pop with his supper last night since Paul had given him some a couple days ago (and he has a cool new cup to drink his pop in) but I told him that he couldn't have any because he only gets to drink pop with supper on special days and today is not a special day. But, I told him that tomorrow (today) would be a special day because of Brynlee's baptism Bday AND she is 13 months old AND it is St. Joseph (his namesake) feast day.
His response: "It's Brynlee's Birthday Again???? Ugh!"
Haha! Getting sick of celebrating other people I guess....although he is super pumped for my Birthday coming up and has already planned out my party. He says I need a 'Lady' cake since I'm a girl. :)
ANYWAY, sorry for the tangent....
Now about Brynlee.
Sweet, crazy, lovely, sassy, lovable Brynlee.
Since I still have not posted about her 12 month check up stats from her check up last month, I thought this would be a great occasion to do it!
On 4-2-12:
Height: 30.5 inches (90th percentile)
Weight: 20.12 lbs (50th percentile)
Head: 18 in (65th percentile)
I am absolutely certain that the height measurement can not be correct. The nurse was trying to measure a kicking and screaming little girl who did NOT want to lay down. Her head was not even close to the top of the measurement thingy. I know because I was the one who was supposed to hold her head there and I could not get her to keep it down. So, we are assuming the height measurement is off quite a bit. And, 90th percentile seems a little tall because I don't think she is overly tall for her age. Mostly judging this by other kids we know and the way her clothes fit. I'm guessing she is more around 50th percentile, like her weight. She is all around pretty average in size.
Her belly sticks out at night and it is so funny to watch her running around, leading with her belly poking out! :)
Our sweet little Brynlee has turned into a not so sweet all the time little toddler. She has quite an attitude at times. She is still a rockstar sleeper and eater. Sleeps for around 11 hours every night without so much as a peep. I have no idea what time she actually wakes up in the mornings because when I go in to get her up she is just sitting there playing with her blankets or singning to herself. I think she likes her quiet mornings alone! Sometimes she is annoyed when I try to take her out of her crib too soon. She likes to lay there and roll around laughing and showing off for me. It's so precious.
She is totally off of bottles and formula. She is not overly fond of milk, even warmed up, but she will eventually drink some. Not quite as well as I would like, but at least she is getting some. She has quite the attitude about it if you try to give her some and she doesn't want it OR if you give it to her in a cup that she doesn't want. Of course, whatever cup Grady has is the one she wants. She will push it away and yell at you and then throw it down if she she gets her hands on it. It is quite funny to watch how big she thinks she is! :)
She is a great eater, eats pretty much anything and everything....all the time. I would say her eating habits are about exactly opposite of what Grady's were at her age. She still only has 7 teeth, but barely needs things in small pieces anymore. Of course we still cut everything up for her, but she prefers it not cut up (if it is appropriate to not cut it up) and has never choked, gagged, thrown up, etc. like her brother did all the time (and still does). She can even eat tortilla chips with no problem which took him until he was 2.5 to eat...
She LOVES fruit! I repeat. She love.love.loves it. Especially strawberries, kiwi, mandarins, and bananas.
She still loves turkey lunch meat and is her 'go to' food of choice.
She has recently starting eating vegetables better, so hopefully that continues. Mostly only green beans, but we'll take it!
She is the slowest eater ever, which is NOT a good combination with Grady's fast eating and busy personality. At restaurants it is a challenge to get her to eat faster and to WANT to get up from the table. With Grady the struggle is getting him to sit and stay seated and not want to leave the table to run around. With Brynlee it is to get her to eat faster and get done so we can leave because her brother is ready to go. And, let me tell ya, she does not like it if you try to take her away from the table when she is not finished. She also doesn't like it if you put a food item away when she is apparently not finished with getting 3rds, or 4ths, or 5ths... :)
All that being said, of course we love how mellow and laid back she is! It is so nice and refreshing to know that she will just sit and eat and take care of herself at meals (as long as we keep the food coming!).
She is running and running and running everywhere. She LOVES being chased, especially by her brother.
She LOVES LOVES LOVES with all her heart being outside. She gets super mad when she has to come inside OR when someone else is going outside without her. She gets mad when I go pick her up from daycare and she has to stop playing outside.
She is a fearless little pistol. No regard for her own body. I know she is still a bit young to totally determine this, but so far she has shown no signs of being scared of anything. Yikes. She loves to climb up and onto everything and will stand on top of it and jump around and dance and squeal becasue she is so so so proud of herself.
She can and will climb to the top of the biggest slide at the park, sit down, and go down by herself loving it the whole way. We, of course, try to get her to turn so she is going down on her belly at least, but she just does everything else on her own so fast we can hardly get there in time to help her.
She will also climb up the slide the wrong way...the entire way up...and gets supper annoyed if you try to take her off, or save her from falling off the top once she gets there.
She will say 'bye bye' and wave to the park, but isn't as inclined to say it to us....nice of her, I know.
She still isn't really saying much. We have really been working on saying and signing 'more', but she will do it maybe 30% of the time. She will wave bye bye and blow kisses, but doesn't usually say it.
I thinks he is just too mellow to care about talking. She just smiles and you, laughs, gets excited, when you tell her to say something, but she never says anything back.
She will, however, repeat songs back to me. She will (at times) sing 'Row row row' when I sing Row Row Row Your Boat to her.
I know she's still young to really be talking, but I wish she would start to say a few things. And hopefully that will stop the whining for when she wants something...or grunting...
She loves books. She doesn't really love having them read to her, but she loves sitting by herself and looking through them, all the time. I love it!
She still isn't a great napper. We are still mostly doing 2 naps a day still, sometimes she is fine with 1. But, she will only nap for anywhere between 1 to 2 hours at a time. Of couse, we are so happy that she sleeps so well at night that I am fine with her shorter naps. We've been discussing weening her off of her morning nap soon, so hopefully when that happens she will start to take a longer afternoon nap. We will probably wait until after June 1st, when I'm done with work for the summer!
*Tangent*
I am leaving my current job as Training Specialist for the Catholic Schools and will be teaching Kindergarten next year at North American Martyrs Catholic school here in Lincoln! I'm SUPER pumped!!! My last day of work at my current job is June 1st and then I will have a couple months to get my new classroom ready, be with the kids, and do a few organization projects for the house! Can't wait! It will be a brand new Kindergarten classroom to set up because they are adding another section of Kindergarten, so it will be a lot of work, but fun work! I'm already excited to go through all of my 20 tubs of stuff from my old classroom and get things organized in my new room!!
Brynlee is truly such a joy! It is soooo amazing to watch her interact with Grady and see how much they love each other. But, with that being said, I am already sick of the sibling fighting! Seriously, it starts this early??? :) Oh the things they do purposely to annoy each other... I know it gets so much worse, so I shouldn't even complain yet...
Happy May Day!
